St Clare’s College Canberra, Celebrates 60 Years of Empowering Young Women
An extraordinary legacy of faith, education, and empowerment shines brightly as St Clare’s College, Canberra marks its 60th anniversary.
On Wednesday 12 February St Clare’s College warmly welcomed attendees to a special Mass celebrating its remarkable 60 years of nurturing young women in both faith and education. The event, held at the school, was a vibrant occasion with attendees from surrounding schools, alumnae, and members of the community, all gathered to celebrate the College’s rich history and unwavering commitment to empowering women. The year also coincides with Jubilee 2025: The Year of Pilgrims of Hope. The Mass was officiated by His Grace, Archbishop Christopher Prowse and Deacon Don Nguyen.
Since its founding in 1965, (formerly known as Catholic Girls’ High School Griffith) St Clare’s College has always been a beacon of academic excellence and spiritual growth. Under the guidance of the dedicated teaching staff, the school has cultivated generations of confident, compassionate, and courageous young women who go on to make lasting impacts in their communities and professions.
Principal, Dr Ann Cleary, addressed the College and guests during the Mass, reflecting on the powerful legacy of the school. The occasion was not just a celebration of the past but a clear statement of the school’s future. The Mass also served as a powerful commissioning of the school’s new student leaders, highlighting the vital importance of women in leadership positions and reaffirming the school’s dedication to cultivating future leaders. The message of empowerment and education rang out loud and clear, with alumnae and guests sharing their stories of how St Clare’s College had shaped their lives, both personally and professionally.
The event was filled with heartfelt moments as current and past students participated in the Mass, showcasing their dedication to faith and service. The energy in the Mass was palpable, with a strong sense of pride in the air – particularly showcased through the College’s Music Ministry choir. The strength of the school, its mission, and its values truly shone through, leaving everyone in attendance with a sense of hope for the next 60 years of empowering women through education.
As the school looks to the future, St Clare’s College continues to focus on providing an exceptional education that prepares young women to succeed in an ever-changing world. The 60th anniversary celebration marked just the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
