In the final edition of Tidings for 2019, on behalf of Mr Cooney, I wish to thank the whole St Clare’s College community for their partnership and support throughout the year. The spirit of the community has been very evident in all our major events this year and is highlighted in this edition of Tidings.

Last weekend I invited some of my family around to my house for a BBQ to talk about Christmas Day organisation. Whilst the adults were talking and planning my sons and their cousins were playing hide and seek in the backyard. I watched as they were searching for their ideal hiding place, the frantic running... Term 3 has been an extremely busy one for the staff and students of the College. Since the last edition of Tidings we have celebrated St Clare’s Day, our second Family Breakfast, Globe Multicultural Festival and Grandparents’ Day and our Year 12’s have sat for the ACT Scaling Test (AST). During the term students have been active in a wide range of reflection days, camps, sports and debating competitions as well as competing in a wide range of cultural and academic events.

The Year 12 tertiary students sat the ACT Scaling Test (AST) early in September and all seemed pleased with their efforts. The AST is the test that all ACT tertiary students sit and their performance influences their school based assessment program to produce their tertiary entrance rank (ATAR). The students have been well prepared for... Read more »

Our St Clare’s feast day on the 17 August was a wonderful day of celebration and fun. We began the day with Mass celebrated by Father Andrew Lotton and Reverend Vince Barclay. It was a beautiful and most fitting prayerful gathering that reminded us of the legacy of St Clare and the inspiration she provides for us on a daily basis.

Following the Mass the students changed into their costumes interpreting the theme of “our heroes”. There are a variety of photos on the website that allow you to see the effort the students made in getting into the spirit of the day. I must congratulate them on their initiative and willingness to participate in such... Read more »

Welcome to Term 3, I trust that all students and their families had an opportunity to have a restful holiday. As Semester 1 results and reports have been received during the break I hope that this time has provided an opportunity for rest, reflection and goal setting and that each student will have a productive and successful second semester.

Congratulations to those students who have been acknowledged with either Academic or Endeavour Awards at our recent awards ceremonies. I trust that our students will be inspired to continue to put their best foot forward and make the most of their learning opportunities during Semester 2. Over the recent holiday break I had the good... Read more »

The students’ assessment schedule tends to be weighted more towards the end of semester to enable the students’ maximum time to demonstrate their learning and understanding in subject areas.

Consequently, over the last few weeks, teachers have been busily marking assignments and then collating results from the semester’s tasks to write reports. I trust you will appreciate the feedback given when the reports are opened for access on our Learning Management System, SEQTA. All reports will contain a list of Effective Learner Behaviours and... We are approaching the end of term and the girls are busy undertaking exams, oral presentations and assessment that are due over the next few weeks. The formal exam period runs from the 7-19 June. We wish the girls well for their exams.

Our Senior Drama students performed An Evening of Shakespeare at the College on the 24 May and on the 14 June. The students performed progressive scenes from Shakespeare around the College grounds. I had the pleasure of attending the Addams Family musical at Marist College Canberra on Saturday 2 June. It was a delight to... Read more »

Welcome to Term 2. I trust the holiday break was an enjoyable and relaxing time for those who were able to take some time away from work.

The term has begun with a flurry of activity. The ANZAC Commemorative Service held on Friday 4 May was a very meaningful ceremony. The St Clare’s ANZAC Spirit Award was awarded to Year 9 student Sophie Thorp as she displays all the values of the Anzac including mateship, honour, courage, and citizenship. The commemorative address... Read more »
